While addressing local humanists, freethinkers and atheists at Stanford University on May 6th, David Silverman, president of national advocacy group American Atheists, said that his New Jersey-based organization would be launching a first-of-a-kind television channel dedicated to atheism in July 2014.

49-year-old Silverman said that the new channel would be available via Roku, an internet-streaming player that can be attached to all television sets like a cable box. The channel will broadcast atheism-related content seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The unnamed channel is expected to reach approximately seven million households and be free of cost, at least initially. With more than 100 Christian channels and 4 Jewish channels on the existing television network, this will be the first atheist channel to air in America.
